Horological Links

BRITISH HOROLOGICAL INSTITUTE The BHI was founded in 1858.  Its purpose today is to provide horological education, set horological standards and support its 3,000 members. Membership is open to all at professional and associate level.  The Horological Journal, the world's oldest technical journal, is published monthly.  The Institute's headquarters, housing a fine library and collection of clocks, watches and horological tools, is at Upton Hall near Newark.

ANTIQUARIAN HOROLOGICAL SOCIETY was formed in 1953 as a learned society to promote the study of clocks and watches and the history of time measurement in all its forms. The journal Antiquarian Horology is published quarterly.

WORSHIPFUL COMPANY OF CLOCKMAKERS is an active 'Livery Company' founded in 1631 under Royal Charter of King Charles I. Its original purpose was to regulate and encourage the craft of watch and clock making in the City of London, to establish an apprenticeship system and look after the welfare of its members.  The Clockmakers' Company fine horological collection is housed in The Guildhall Museum, London.

INSTITUTE OF CONSERVATION is the lead voice for the conservation of cultural heritage.  Professional members include horological Accredited Conservator-Restorers (ACRs) on the Conservation Register.

WEST DEAN COLLEGE provides one and two year diploma courses in horological conservation-restoration in association with the University of Sussex.

CLOCKS MAGAZINE is a monthly magazine for clock enthusiasts.
